Turn a brown paper bag into a vase? What? That’s crazy talk! Or is it?
A while back I found a project on Environment Technology’s website on how to do just that. I put it on my mental “to do” list. I couldn’t find it again, but I remembered enough to make it something similar!
Environmental Technology is the manufacturer of Easy Cast Resin, which is the resin I use in my projects. You should definitely check out their site because they have a bunch of free craft listings on there and they have a blogger, Carmi, who does some really fun and amazing crafts!
Also, I have had several questions from some of my readers/subscribers about where they can purchase the Easy Cast Resin, especially internationally. Luckily, they have a list of of where it can be purchased in the U.S. and internationally! Yay!
Alright, back to the project. First off, couldn’t you see this as the centerpiece for a bridal shower or baby shower? Ladies lunch? Girls night in? Just to have around when the Spring flowers begin to bloom? Or… because the bag becomes translucent after you apply the resin, you could put a battery operated tea light in it and line a walkway! Fun! Fun! Fun!
– A stand to put the bag on – I made one out of a paper towel roll and a cup (see video)
– Cling Wrap
– Ribbon
– String
– Disposable paint brush
– Straw – optional

Directions:
1. Create your stand. I glued the paper towel roll to a cup to make it tall enough, where the bag was raised off of the table top.
2. Crumple your bag – wrinkles add character! Remember that ladies!
3. Uncrumple your bag – as in life, the wrinkles remain…
4. Wrap your stand completely in Cling Wrap and put the bag on the stand.
5. Gather the bag a little around the neck, to give it some shape. Tie a string loosely around the neck area.
6. Paint the outside of the bag completely with the resin – letting it soak into the fibers.
7. If needed, take a straw and blow on the bag to get rid of any bubbles that may have formed.
8. If you find the bottom does not look even or flat enough to sit stable, when dry, flip over the bag after one hour and shape as needed.
9. After 12 hours of curing, remove the stand and make sure to remove all of the Cling Wrap.
10. Pour enough resin into the inside of the bag to cover and swirl it around. Any excess resin can pool in the bottom of the bag, if desired.
11. Allow to dry for 12 hours. With the Easy Cast, full cure isn’t until 72 hours, so I might not put water in until it is fully cured.
12. Tie a pretty ribbon around it, to hide the string.
Now you have a beautiful and unique vase!!!
It makes a great decoration, or gift! It’s a fun way to give your Mom flowers for Mother’s Day!! And she can reuse the vase!

I'm thinking using different size and colored gift bags would be neat for this DIY vase, but wonder if they would react the same way with the resin.???

I was thinking of tinting the resin in complimentary color , only pulling the color thru like ribboning. Anyone have success doing this?
