Welcome back for another Craft or Crap challenge! This time we are tackling Christmas in July! I have a dazzling DIY project that will add a touch of sparkle to your Christmas decor: a Glass Christmas Tree.

The Rules for Christmas in July Craft or Crap Challenge
The rules are so simple! Here they are – interpret them as you will:
- Must be Christmas-themed
- Must use a candle holder
- Must use something glass

Materials Needed to Make the Glass Christmas Tree:

- 5 glass mismatched candleholders (thrift store)
- 1 metal candleholder (thrift store)
- Folkart Watercolor Gelz in Sea Turtle
- Fine glitter in silvers, whites, and gold
- Clear-drying glue
- Resin
- Gem mold
- A starfish
- Fairy lights

How to Make a Glass Christmas Tree Directions
Prepare Your Metal Candleholder:
Clean your metal candleholder thoroughly to ensure the paint adheres well. I was originally going to leave it the natural metal. However, once I cleaned it, it changed color, and did not want to polish up. My solution was to paint it with a matte paint in Antique White.
I did not do an even coat. I wanted some of the original color to come through.
This will be the base of your glass Christmas tree. Let it dry completely.
Paint the Glass Candleholders:
Clean all the glass candleholders, inside and out.
I used rubbing alcohol to clean them. Folkart Watercolor Gelz in Sea Turtle, mixed with Mod Podge Ultra was the way I decided to go. I loved the sea turtle color.
I did originally try to brush it on the glass but it was streakier than I wanted. Instead, I mixed the Mod Podge and the paint and poured it into the insides of three of the candle holders.
I didn’t do all of the candle holders because I wanted to alternate the green with a glittered one.
Just realize this will take some time to dry, so you’ll need to be patient.
Sparkle is a Must for a Craft for the Holidays
Choose two of the alternating candle holders to be the glittered sections. I tried to match the existing glittered piece, so I did a combo of fine silver glitter, disco glitter, Glamour Dust, and a teeny, tiny bit of gold.
I brushed Mod Podge onto the outside of the chosen candle holders and then sprinkled the glitter mixture on them and then tapped the excess off.
Once dry, I used the Mod Podge spray in gloss to make sure the glitter didn’t flake off.
Assemble the Glass Christmas Tree
Use the metal candleholder as the base and start gluing the pieces together. I used a crazy glue but you can use E6000 too.
You want the largest at the bottom and finish with the smallest at the top.
The Christmas Tree Craft Topper
Grab a small starfish and add a little Mod Podge and glitter to dress it up. Because of the particular candle holders, I thought it would need a pointy topper. So I did a gem with resin and added the leftover glitter.
Once the starfish was dry and the gem was cured, I glued them to the top of the glass Christmas tree to finish it off.
Add Fairy Lights
The final touch is to light it up!
I strung the fairy lights around the base of the tree. I thought about putting them over the glass but I thought I might not like that.
I tucked the switch under the bottom candleholder, so you can’t see it unless you are looking for it.
And there you have it, a beautiful Glass Christmas Tree perfect for the holidays!
