DIY Christmas Ornament Coasters – Another Coaster Friday

I wanted to think a little outside the mold today to come up with Christmas Ornament Coasters!

You will need:
–  Coaster mold
–  Resin (I used Easy Cast, but Envirotex Lite would work just as well)
–  Glitter – I used chunky green, fine red, fine gold, fine silver and a homemade mix of blue, white and silver (left over from another project)
–  Dimensional paint – I used metallic white, pearl green, gold and brown
–  Jewelry clay  – You could substitute polymer clay, but you will need to bake that before attaching it to the coaster and the jewelry clay is more durable.
–  Parchment paper

Here are some of the same or similar items available from Amazon, incase you want to give it a try:

 Here is the video tutorial:

Directions:
1.  Prepare your resin, according to the package directions.
2.  Mix in whatever color glitter you want to have as the background.  Pour into  mold.  Pop bubbles as necessary.
3.  Allow to cure at least 12 hours.
4.  Decide on a design and take your 3D paint and paint it on the cured resin.  Allow to completely dry.
5.  Once dry, prepare more resin and pour over the coasters.  Allow to cure a minimum of 12 hours before removing from the mold.
6.  Prepare your jewelry clay, according to the package directions.  Roll the clay into a ball and then flatten and shape it to be the ornament cap.  TIP:  Try not to touch the front of the coasters when handling the jewelry clay because it will leave a residue behind.
7.  Once shaped, press it onto the side of the coaster.   Shape as necessary and add the hole.
8.  Take your fine glitter and brush it onto the clay.  Run a thin blade under the clay to detach it from the parchment paper, carefully turn it over an apply glitter to the back of the ornament cap.  Flip it back over and let it cure.
9.  Once it is cured, you can brush off any excess and if you didn’t get enough glitter on the clay, you can add it with some Mod Podge or clear drying glue.

That’s it!  Thanks for stopping by!  Happy Holidays and Happy Crafting!
