Before you know it, you’ll be elbow deep in your junk drawer and your recycling bin to gather enough materials for these projects.
I say GO FOR IT!
Dig deep and find that gem at the bottom of the drawer or under the forgot-to-rinse-it-out yogurt container!
You have the vision!

It’s okay to play favorites...just this once!
With any luck, they will put a smile on your face, or at the very least, they will inspire you!
ATTACK OF THE GIANT ANTS! Garden Ants Using Recycled Materials
This is one of my all-time favorite crafts that I have EVER made! I know some people have made them since but when I made them sooo many years ago, they were nowhere to be found!
I’d like to think I was the inspiration behind all those I have seen since.
One can dream!
The story behind the golf ball ants is that we lived on a golf course and one day Greg decided he was going golf ball hunting.
He wanted me to go with him.
Nope.
It was March, muddy, cold, and wet.
I mean really…why would I want to do that?
He did and he found a ton of golf balls. It became a thing.
He eventually convinced me to join him and then it really became a thing! It was fun. It got us out in the fresh air for a few hours and it was kinda like an Easter egg hunt for grown-ups.
I dug through the weeds and Greg did the water rescues.
I was inspired to come up with the ant project because of the abundance of golf balls we had. Like buckets full of abundance.
Eventually, we started gifting golf balls to the golfers in our lives but I always kept a few for crafting.
What I like about this outdoor garden decor idea is that it is a great example of how to decorate outdoor garden spaces with whimsy.
These guys aren’t going to spoil your picnic or eat your house!
These are the bugs you want in your yard!
Recycled Artichoke Garden Art
Maybe you can’t grow an artichoke…though I bet you can…technically it’s a thistle…this artichoke almost looks good enough to eat!
This artichoke feeds right into fun ideas for outdoor garden decorations.
Again, start collecting your recycling to pull this one off. A few supplies such as a dowel, a styrofoam ball, glue, paint, and plastic spoons and you got this!
Okay…so I don’t suggest you eat it but I have had mine outside for…I can’t believe it’s been this long…
10 YEARS!
WHAT?!?!
WHEN DID THAT HAPPEN?!?!
Except for the dowel rod having rotted where it was in the soil, it has held up incredibly well!
I always had it in a pot up north where I had a hosta growing. It is currently on the table in front of my shed down here in Florida. I’ve yet to find the perfect spot!
How To Make An Easy Ladybug Using Recycled Items
Back to the bugs…but this one will for sure not bug you! Infact, you might want a whole bunch of them around peeking from behind leaves in flower pots, on the edge of the fountain, or randomly positioned on your patio furniture.
This one is so adorable and you can enlist help from your friends or your kids to make this garden decor come to life!
All you need is a wire hanger, an old golf ball, a plastic bottle, and some paint.
Can you say adorable?!?!
Dandelion Inspired Garden Art
Like the other easy garden decorations, this idea uses recycled materials and is perfect for those who love gardening.
It’s also a perfect garden craft idea for someone who does NOT have a green thumb!
You will need some aluminum cans, water bottles, a styrofoam ball, some paint, and a lot of patience.
Other than that, it’s a breeze!
For me, this was inspired by a dandelion.
I could just picture the fluffy seeds blowing in the wind…but didn’t want a yard full of dandelions!
This felt like a great alternative. I did put glow-in-the-dark paint on it and it lasted for a while but not really that long…though glow-in-the-dark paints might be better today than they were back then.
Either way, you might want to add this to your list of ideas for outdoor garden decor.
Bonus Project
*I’m going to stick a quick bonus project in here for your do it yourself garden decorations.
This project stemmed from a friend dropping off a ridiculous amount of pushpins at our house when he was getting ready to move.
I was dumbfounded about what to do with all the pushpins. CLICK HERE to see what happened!
Recycled Sunflower Ideas for Outdoor garden decor
Here is the last of my ideas for outdoor garden decor.
This sunflower can brighten your garden year round! It will never wilt.
No water necessary!
You are, however, going to need to grab some more push pins for this fun garden art!
Seriously, put on some good music and jam while you work on the pushpins
It can be your form of garden meditation.
Remember to let me know which project is your favorite!
