- Clear stones (available at Dollar Tree or craft stores, in the floral department)

- Nail polish
- Glitter (optional)
- Ring blanks or jewelry bails
- Glue (Weldbond works well)
- Cold water and ice
- Oven-proof pan or dish
Instructions:
If you have ever wondered how to make glass cracked gems, I’m going to show you!
Step 1: Crack the Stones
This is it! If you have ever asked how do you crack glass gems, the magic happens here!
We shock them!
- Start by preheating your oven to 500° F
- Place the clear stones in an oven-proof pan or dish.
- Put the pan in the oven and heat for 20 minutes.
- I used a combo of jumbo glass gems and small ones for variety. No matter the size, they took the same amount of time.
Step 2: Cool the Stones
- While the stones are heating, prepare a bowl of cold water with ice.
- After 20 minutes, carefully remove the hot pan from the oven using oven mitts.
- Immediately transfer the hot stones into the bowl of ice water. The sudden temperature change will cause the stones to crack internally, creating beautiful fractured patterns.
The glass cracked gems should look something like this:
Step 3: Decorate with Nail Polish
- Once the stones are cool and dry, it’s time to add some color. Use nail polish to paint the flat side of the stones. Apply a base color first and let it dry.
- For an extra touch, you can add a layer of glitter nail polish. Let each layer dry completely before applying the next.
- You can make the glass gems red, green, purple, rainbow, or any color or finish (metallic, matte, glossy, etc) that nail polish comes in!
Step 4: Attach Jewelry Findings
- If you want to turn your cracked stones into jewelry, attach ring blanks or jewelry bails using a strong glue like Weldbond.
- Allow the glue to dry thoroughly before using or wearing your new jewelry.
Step 5: Display Your Cracked Stones
- Your beautifully decorated cracked stones are ready to be displayed or worn. They make stunning rings, pendants, or simply decorative pieces.
They look like the glass crackle beads!
Enjoy your unique, handcrafted cracked stones that are sure to impress!
